Cape Digital Music: Production Library, Audio Compression

Sound design is an art

Whether you're selecting mp3 music for the workplace or creating a sophisticated soundscape for your short film, documentary, advertising or video production, it may be helpful to experiment with different MP3 tracks to test the emotional potential of the sounds. Matching the mood and atmosphere with the right background music is an art.

Sound Quality is Important

Cape Digital Music wave files are recorded in high fidelity at 24-bit/96khz. The Mp3 tracks are then encoded at 320kbps, well above the CD transparency threshold……What is CD transparency?

If an Mp3 track is perceptually indistinguishable from the wave file used to create it, then the Mp3 compression is described as being CD transparent. In other words, transparency is the situation where compression artifacts are nonexistent or imperceptible. The term transparency threshold describes the kilobits per second (kbps) at which transparency is achieved. Mp3-encoded files are generally considered artifact-free at bitrates at or above 192kbps. This means that when an MP3 track is playing back at 192kbs 44.1 kHz or higher, it is indistinguishable from the original uncompressed WAV file, and transparent to compression.

Cape Digital Music also offers Lossless Audio (FLAC)

Digital audio files compressed by FLAC can be decompressed into an identical copy of the original uncompressed WAV data. FLAC is a free format and does not charge for licensing or implementation. Playback and decompression is simple, and there are a host of applications available for Mac and Windows computers.
